2025 Style Goals and My Word of the Year
Play.
After a heavy year in 2024, play is the word I’ve chosen to meditate on, remember and embody for 2025.
But it’s not the play of my childhood- although there may be some of that as well - it’s about bringing a spirit of joy and curiosity to life.
That might show up in my ambition to bring in new clients for my work.
It could manifest in putting down my phone each night to get down on the floor and pretend with Luka.
And with my style, it’s about exploration, colour and whimsy. A pair of flower earrings? Yes. A trip to the cheaper thrift store to experiment? Yes. Challenging myself to step up my Zoom call wardrobe game? Absolutely.
(Today’s fun wfh look for calls)
It also might mean that I take on less collaborations. As much as I enjoy working with brands whose values and style align with mine, there is an obligation to accepting PR items. And in this season of play and discovering who I want to be, that’s not always going to work.
One brand I will likely continue to work with is April Cornell. My whole family (the female members) have fallen in love with their whimsical, vintage-inspired pieces- right down to my five year-old niece in her strawberry print dress.
I’ve also given myself the challenge of only buying five new items of clothing- the rest will have to be sourced secondhand. I’m approaching this ambitious goal (the average person in North America buys over 60 per year) with grace and fun as well. How can I get creative with what I have, and what’s available to me that’s already been purchased?
I’m looking to this year with optimism for what my family will accomplish. I can’t wait to share more style explorations with you!
